Nevada Falls backed by Liberty and Half Dome

Successful Journey Complete

I awoke at 5:20AM to begin my departure from the wilderness, hiking the last 6-miles down to Curry Village. I would again follow the first 4 miles of the popular John Muir Trail, hiking against traffic. Fortunately, the Yosemite trails were empty during my pre-dawn walk. I gazed up at Liberty Dome backed by Half Dome, passing lightly flowing Nevada and Vernal Falls. As I reached the last couple miles to the Valley, I worked my way through the dense crowd of Half Dome cable permit owners making their way towards the top of Half Dome. Many would ask me "Are you already done?" I would response as kindly as possible "Yes, but I didn't hike Half Dome". I reflected back over the past 18 days and thought to myself "Yes, but my journey had been very fulfilling and successful."

From Yosemite Valley, I glanced up at Yosemite Falls which, in this dry year, was completely shut off. Still, the massive granite walls of Yosemite Valley have always inspired me. I could gaze upon them in awe for hours.

Leaving Yosemite, I hopped on a YART bus to Merced, where I picked up a train to Stockton. An Amtrak bus brought me to downtown Sacramento, and the Light Rail train dropped me off at 65th Street. This time I knew how to open the doors. Stepping off the Light Rail, I walked the remaining 1.5 miles home through an empty Sac State Campus. Weathered, dirty, 13 lbs lighter, and a huge smile on my face.

Cheers to all and much love!
