John Muir Trail Map

Planning

Only 37 more days till I set forth from Yosemite Valley, heading northish to Tuolumne Meadows and connecting up with my friend Kat who will be hiking with me from TM to Onion Valley, many miles south. I suppose I should be training for this event because I know I will pay if I don't get some miles on my legs and feet. Well, I'll probably pay anyway....

To hammock or not to hammock? I love sleeping in my bed-in-the-air but it does cost me in terms of weight penalty. It definately adds a pound or two to my overall weight, especially since I will be carrying the Berrikade canister for food protection... well, it's really bear protection from my food so they don't have to be destroyed when they become used to people food. Which way will I go - lighter or more comfy? Hummmmmmm.

Stay tuned.

Shellys JMT Hike

The John Muir Trail passes through a land of 13,000 and 14,000 foot peaks, of lakes in the thousands, and of canyons and granite cliffs. It's also a land blessed with the mildest, sunniest climate of any major mountain range in the world. The John Muir Trail is 211 miles long and runs (mostly in conjunction with the PCT) from Yosemite Valley to Mt Whitney, in California.
