John Muir Trail Map

Preparation

The beginning of anything is always a tough time for me. I am easily overwhelmed by the existence of too many options, and get cornered into making no decision at all. As of today, though, that changes. My original thought this year was to do the JMT for a third time, taking much of it on solo, and being accompanied by my lovely wife for the final week of it. I've decided, however, to only do about half of the trail, but take it on solo, meeting Alice at the exit in Horseshoe Meadow. I am eager to see my entry point, new ground for me, as I'll be going over Paiute Pass, and also the terminus, at Horseshoe Meadow, which I have been to only once before.

John Muir Trail - 2012

The John Muir Trail passes through a land of 13,000 and 14,000 foot peaks, of lakes in the thousands, and of canyons and granite cliffs. It's also a land blessed with the mildest, sunniest climate of any major mountain range in the world. The John Muir Trail is 211 miles long and runs (mostly in conjunction with the PCT) from Yosemite Valley to Mt Whitney, in California.
