on Mt Whitney

Mt Whitney

Up early and hiking at 530. At 4 this morning we could see a line of headlamps on the trail above us, most left before us. Great morning, very little wind and clear. About 40 backpacks at the junction to Whitney, the top is two miles away there. At the top about 930, fantastic views and no wind! Then down to the junction and the Whitney portal trail. We wanted to get the 5 pm bus from lone pine to mammoth since no bus on the weekend. Beautiful scenery on the way down, out at 330 and quickly caught a ride into town. Mammoth lakes by 7 pm, long day!
