So plans are in the works for crossing WA on the John Wayne Trail in May. (Two weeks away, yikes!!!!) It starts out on the WA/ID border and heads west across the state on the old Milwaukee Railroad line. Among other places, we will pass thru Ralston, Lind, Warden, Othello, Beverly, then cross the Columbia River and continue west on thru the Yakima Training Center to Thorp, Ellensburg and Cle Elum , then up over Snoqualmie Pass, thru the 2 mile long tunnel, and down to North Bend. Im attempting to take both dogs this time, Rosies first big extended adventure! Ill have the walking cart so either of them can ride, plus it can carry lots of our supplies and water :) Chris has for whatever reason decided to go along, we both may be insane :) In the map the JWT is in red...who knows, we may just want to continue walking and reach the ocean, time will tell :)
Coyote, Wylie And Rosie On The JWT
The John Wayne Pioneer Trail is a 285 mile rail trail spanning the state of Washington, from the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains to the Idaho border. Designated a National Recreational Trail, it is enjoyed by hikers, horse riders, bikers, Boy Scouts, rail historians, scientists, and trail enthusiasts of all sorts. The trail highlights Washingtons diverse and scenic landscape, traveling through evergreen forests and dark tunnels, over high trestles and spectacular rivers, and across open farmland and high desert.
