Gear list Journal Plan

Bottles. There are many bottles in my house right now. I've been washing and rinsing and re-washing bottles. I have bought bottles and contemplated selling bottles...all in the name of hiking. I'm preparing my water caches. I have need to stow six gallons along the trail (strategically). I need to be able to carry about 1.5 gallons at any time. This amounts to a lot of bottles.

We've been saving our milk jugs for weeks. We now have 4 gallon jugs and 5 half-gallon jugs, all of which needed to be throughly washed. They were given a cursory rinse after they were empty, but it was time to scrub to kill of the old milk smell. (Who want to drink water that smells like old milk? Not me!) Hopefully this evenings washing will result in sweet tasting water caches, at a fraction of the price!

In addition to the cache bottles, there are the pack bottles. The plan is to take the water bladder (3L) and two Platypus 2+ bags (4+L) and a .5 liter bottle (for mixing drink powder in). This should give me plenty of pack space...but it means more bottles to wash.

On top of water bottles, there are food bottles to wash (one for oil, one because it was cheaper to buy two), a food dehydrator (going to cook at dry some beans and lentils in advance) and the dishes from dinner. I have a lot of washing to get to. Time to get...
