Treib

Lake Lucerne

This year's July is outstanding rainy and cold, hard to find a day with good hiking conditions. We had a very dry winter with lack on snow, and also a warm and dry spring. Obviously the Pacific coast got all of it, nothing left for Switzerland. But nature compensated the last six month now within one month. At minimum the forecast for today was good and I decided to take the chance for another day hike.

I started in Brunnen at Lucerne, crossed the lake and arrived at Treib. The trail went uphill through forest and meadows, showing great views on Lake Lucerne and the Rigi Mountain. I was happy and I could feel that my strength is coming back slowly. On the PCT three ago, Miss sunshine and me hiked 20 miles per day with a heavy backpack, and now I'm able to hike only 10 miles without backpack. The result of the strenuous time when I had to nurse beloved Miss Sunshine.

After a long ascend, the trail started to descend again. First I crossed open fields with outstanding views, than I entered forest until I reached an impressive canyon, where trail returned to the lake next to a beautyful creek with splashing waterfalls. Once back at the lake, the hike was easy, following mostly the lakeside. I paused from time to time, either to enjoy the lake or one of the religious symbols along the trail.

Finally it was time again to return home. This was probably the best trail segment so far I have hiked on the Camino. Soon I will not be able to dayhike and than real pilgrimage will start.
