From our campsite this morning, Mount Adams abroad Cuddles
Not too much to write about today. We woke and got on trail fairly early. We had read earlier that there was about 1800' of elevation gain from Sheep Lake (which we passed late afternoon yesterday) and our end point of Cold Springs Trailhead. We didn't readily see on the map where this came into play, but in walking it we realized that a good part was just dropping down and then climbing back up from numerous creeks along the way. Overall good trail and we saw no one. We made good time, such that we got to the trailhead just after 9 a.m.
As we dropped down toward the trailhead we discussed how we had started just after 9 am on Tuesday the 5th, so that if we got back by then, it would be just exactly a 48 hour trip - - - thus sort of two days rather than three. So when we got to the point that we could see the trailhead sign, I could hear Cuddles footsteps behind me change to a running pace, and just for fun we both ran the last little bit.
A nice meal in the town of Cascade Locks en route back, where we spotted several thru-hikers wandering around, and then a fond farewell in Portland, and this little trip is over.
It was a blast. I'm not sure that I'd do it again, though. The off-topic part was pretty difficult, and there are just so many other trails to hike. Cuddles told me about a similar round-the-mountain trip around Mt. Hood that he felt is a little better overall than this one. It's kind of fun to collect these I guess; at this point I've both climbed and circumnavigate Mt. St. Helens, Mount Rainier, and now Mount Adams.
So many hikes to do!
Other Trail is located off the beaten path, somewhere between the soles of your feet and your imagination.
