A real thatched roof

Into Fairy Land

As alluded to yesterday we awoke today in a two bedroom apartment with kitchen, as hot water and heating in the B&B failed due to an inability to start the boiler. John our host not only set us up in the apartment, but bought us each drinks in the pub after dinner. Luckily we were the only guests or there would have been many unhappy campers.
We headed out in the morning under a light drizzle, which became a moderate rain with some breeze as we climbed the thousand feet to crest the hill at Windy Gap. From here we had an excellent view for about ten feet, as the fog and low clouds swirled about us. The fog lifted for about a minute revealing a view of the bay, as we donned another layer of clothes, then the fog closed in again. We descended down to Glenbeigh and warmed ourselves in the Tower pub while we ate lunch. As we began the four more miles to Mountain Stage and our B&B, we passed through Fairy Land, with a few dozen brightly painted and decorated diminutive fairy homes in the forest, a delightful diversion to our hiking. As we reached Mountain Stage, a small hamlet, we looked for signs pointing to our B&B, but found nothing. Asking guidance of a local we finally homed in on the house, and settled in.
We had expected dinner at the B&B, but a last minute e-mail that we missed said no dinner, but they would drive us back to Glenbeigh, so we ended up eating dinner at the Tower again. As we waited to order Ian and Joy our Aussie friends entered, so we enjoyed another meal together. Just the way things happen on the trail, when you meet a couple you like, they mysteriously keep showing up. Afterwards we grabbed a taxi back "home", and are set for two more days hiking literally to the edge of the earth. ...C&RR
