Florida Camping trip

Following a Hurricane

As Michael tears through the southeast, I am waiting in anticipation for news on road conditions for tomorrows drive. I plan on leaving pretty early so that if there are any issues, that we will have still have time to get on the trail Friday night.

The plan is to hike in a few miles and start our hike early. If not, then we will have some longer days and may have to cut out a few of the side trails we plan to hike. On average, we will be hiking about 12 miles of trail, but plan on some side trips that would push our mileage to around 16-18 miles a day. We plan on caching our food to split up the weight so we can last 5-7 days on the trail hiking as light as we can. The weather is getting and better as well. Looks like there will be some nights in the 30s, which will test some of my new gear plus experiment with different layering options. The days will be as high as 75 and as low as 65. I am really looking forward to the cool weather as well

Another piece of gear i will be trying out is sleeping in merino wool. I have been a huge synthetic guy owning the R1 hoody and basically living in that thing when it gets cool. But it is a bit heavy, so I am messing around with different layers options in a never ending quest to reduce my base weight.

We will see.

Everything is packed and ready to go. Next blog will hopefully be from the trail with a picture of me smiling like a Cheshire Cat.
