Bless The Kern River!

The Kern River!

Got up early today and did the downhill to Chimney Creek before it got hot. We met Recline at the creek. From there, we climbed through a burned area for 6 miles or so, then started downhill. We found some shade around 11:30am and were later joined for lunch by Recline and Craig. We sped downhill after refueling and averaged 3+ mph down to Manter Creek. We took a short break there, then pressed on 4.8 miles to the South Fork of the Kern River, where we went swimming!! The river marked the end of the waterless stretches until up around Burney Falls! A while later, we continued on for about a mile, cooked dinner and set up camp. We did ~23 miles today, and are in our tent while it's still light out - crazy. Only 3 miles or so tomorrow to Kennedy Meadows, the official end of the desert and start of the Sierras!
