Turned Around

I thanked Alan for letting me sleep on his porch. He invited me to eat breakfast with him. I told him that I was going to hike out with the guys, but thanks for the invite. I should have eaten breakfast with him. Karma would deal me cruel hand later.

We hiked up horse trail to get back to the PCT. I hiked ahead and was making good time even in the blow down state. In this section there are an unusual number of tree blown down on the trail. Some seem like they have been there for years. It is in a wilderness area, so I don't think they even allow chain saws. Everything has to be done with hand tools I believe.

I ran across a field of blown downs totally blocking the trail. I guess there was a really bad wind storm during the winter and the trees had fallen down and where stacked on each other like dominos. Long story short. I got turned around, found a trail, and started hiking. I knew I was hiking in the wrong direction, but I thought that I was headed towards Devils' Lake. It was only a couple miles out of the way so I kept hiking. I was pretty upset when I arrived back at the horse trail. I had hike back in the wrong direction nearly 5 miles. 10 Bonus miles by the time I would get back to the where I got lost.

I came across a hiker with two dogs coming in from a side trail and she asked me if I'd seen two guys on horses. I said unless the horses have snow shoes they aren't going to be able make it here. I told her that the snow was going to get much worst and it did.

Thankfully the crew camped early and I hiked until I caught them. Today I hiked around 37 miles, but only 27 in the right direction. Dope!!
