Dirty Little Blue Blazers
It was very windy & cold this morning, which made the hike to the lodge even longer. I grabbed a cup of coffee and headed for the shower. Afterward I did laundry with no detergent - got some of the dirt out. My bluetooth keyboard still wasn't working so I sat in the downstairs lounge waiting for the possibility to use someone's laptop to fix it. Luckily Ron came down and asked me how my keyboard was. When I told him that it still wasn't working he offered to let me use his laptop after he finished an email. That was great, and I drank some more coffee until he was ready. Finally I was able to get it to work, and I will be able to catch up on my journals.Afterwards I went to breakfast buffet. Most of the crew was finishing up, which made me a little sad. It's fun to watch how much they eat & everyone is happy at an All You Can Eat (AYCE).
I still had broken camp because of I was fixing the keyboard, so I told them I would catch up later. It was long before I caught Slider & JB waddling down the trail. They where still stuffed from breakfast. We caught the rest of the crew taking a break & hiked together for most of the day.
On the Appalachian Trail the trail is mark with paint on the trees called blazes. White blazes mark the trail, while blue blazes mark side trails and water. Purist pass every white blaze even if it means missing a great site. Taking blue blazed trail is frowned upon. Here on the PCT there really aren't many trail markings and it is nearly impossible to follow the trail all the time (i.e. Covered with snow) Today I was very happy to be a blue blazer when I took the side trail to Ramona Falls. I wouldn't have wanted to miss it.
I also had some fun with Neighbor & Thrust racing up to the top of the mountain climbs. At one point we where all running. Neighbor made it up there first and claimed the yellow jersey. I told him that he won the Pokka a dot jersey for King of the Mountain. It was fun.
