Humphrey's Peak

Oh! How I love the mountains!!! The air is so clear, the sky so blue, and yesterday the fall leaves were just so brilliant! But, I'm sore, sore, sore. I always forget the pain when I look back at all the places I've been. Then I was rudely brought back to reality as I drove back from Humphrey's Peak in Flagstaff on my way to Phoenix. I've got a headache, probably from the altitude, or more likely because I didn't drink enough water. My shoulders ache from carrying an abundance of warm clothing (Although I did appreciate the down jacket on the summit). My friend, Kermit, (I'll tell you more about her later) and I are wondering aloud, just why it is we want to do this for 5 months next summer???

We're sitting in the cafe at Little America scarfing down our dinner and moaning audibly at our oxygen deprived brain cells. Hoping, maybe, the food will help. We still have a two hour drive before getting back to Phoenix. If she didn't have to work, I'd have gone to sleep right then and there. Instead, I reached into my stash of Vitamin I (Ibuprophen) and discovered I hadn't refilled it since May on the Appalachian Trail. I also noticed a hole in my favorite trail pants. I was hoping to get another year out of them. You know I would never spend dollars on a pair of pants to wear out in the real world, but trail clothing is different. I want what I want. But, then it really hurts to see them fall apart after spending so much money. So, We're trying to stay awake, listening to old audio tapes of Stevie Nicks and wondering how we're going to afford all the new stuff we really want for the PCT and what we think we can make do with of our old gear. The headache is still there. So why again are we so determined to do this day after day for five months? I guess I'll have to answere that another day. But, I'm going to be there come April. See you all real soon,
