5 mile camp

On crutches
Milepoint 2569ish

Rained all night! Bob said he'd be back with a ship in the morning, but it looked pretty socked in! I was expexting to hang out another day. Then it cleared up and blue sky appeared! I got up to pee and could put some Weight on my foot but it hurt like hell when I turned it at all. About 9 ish I heard the chopper! I scrambled to pack up all but the tent and orange ground sheet in the tree. I flapped my orange z rest up and down as they circled me then they went away! I found out later that was to get radio signal! Anyways, I started hobbling down the trail about one third of a mile per hour. I didn't get far when Bob met me at the first water crossing. Then deputy Gary loth and pilot John Taylor arrived with crutches and a walking air cast! Perfect! They offered med star helicopter from richland but I waived it. Now I can do at least 1 mile per hour! I will have to be out another night, but John gave me an mre and Bob gave me another apple and some chocolate expresso beans. Its a beautiful spot to have taken an unplanned zero, but thanks to chelan co sheriffs office and ems, I can now complete this section under my own power! I'm so happy even though I'm sure I won't finish with the six pack. Maybe a few days in stehekin will rest up enough to get to Canada. If not, well, we'll see what happens! I'm thinking crutches are like chains. I'll use them to get out of a jam, but I'm not using. Them to leave a safe spot. I really am counting my blessings it isn't snowing again!

I made it to 5 mile camp. I'm tired and have blisters on my hands, but a yummy vegie mannicotti and pinapple from the mre will cheer me right up. And its not raining! ... Yet!

Thanks so very much to Treebeard, gazelle, snow kittens, two stoves, Panama and ratso, vegimatic, Mc tall, and glow worm for all the messages, food, water, toilet paper and moral support! And a special thanks to chelan county sheriffs office and ems, Bob, John, and Gary and all those behind the scene!
