At the beginning
This is all Dan's doing of course. That we're going that is. Dan hiked the AT back in 2004, and he's got mountain views burned into the backs of his eyelids. I'm coming along for the trails through forests, and the Sequoias in particular. He is working on the proper hiking details - where and how to get food, mail drops, town stops, gear. I'm working on the archival aspects - the journal, where to post, how to post? pda? random public computers? pocketmail? etcetera. At least I've got the first one figured.
Its less than a month until we leave home, and we're finally getting organized!
In case some of you are wondering, what is the pacific ___ trail? Well it is the Pacific Crest Trail. A hiking trail from Mexico (si senor) to Canada (aye!). About 2600 miles long and takes most mortals about 5 and a 1/2 months to hike (by foot).
Why you ask, well why not. It's there isn't it?
How does one do this, well you just try. It is an established trail that is well marked and maintained by wonderful people who spend their free time to keep it in good shape. Also there are guide books that provide a breakdown of where to find water and mileages between towns. So with this information it isn't all that bad or scary. We will get to travel through numerous national parks and see some of the best scenery in America.
Ok so that is the 2-minute description. We hope to post entries about once a week and every 2 or 3 weeks hope to have some pictures up. Can't garuantee it will be exciting stuff but something to read for those of you stuck in the office....HA!
