Care Packages and Contact Information for Tess & Tom

If anyone would like to send us a package or letters while we are hiking – Letters and cards can be sent as normal, but boxes must be mailed Priority Mail through the US Post Office. DO NOT use delivery confirmation. If you send a box via Parcel Post we probably won’t get it. PO employees may tell you they can have a Parcel Post box to us a week to 10-days from now, but it’s often not true.

What should you put in a box? How about cookies? Care packages don’t have to be huge. Cookies, notes from you, newspaper clippings, and cookies are all good things to send us.

What shouldn’t go in a box? Anything we’d have to CARRY or mail home. Don’t send cute little stuffed animals, the DOLL, toys, books or the DOLL. We can’t get them in our backpacks and the weight just isn’t nice.

We do not have firm dates for when we’ll be at specific locations. If we say we’ll be someplace on June 5th, it’s very possible we’ll get there a couple of days early, like June 3rd, or a couple of days late. (We could be off by a week or more.) Plans are never set in stone on the trail so it’s a good idea to plan for your box to get to the town a couple of days earlier than we ‘plan’ to be there. We’ll try to keep our journal updated on our anticipated arrival times AND if our addresses change.

If you do decide to send us cookies, it’s VERY IMPORTANT that you address each letter/box exactly as we’ve detailed below. And don’t forget to write ‘Hold for PCT Hiker – ETA: date’ on the bottom left corner of all boxes & letters. It’s also helpful if you write our names ‘TESS & TOM’ in big letters on all sides of any box. We’re going to use polka dots on our labels, in addition to polka dots on all sides of our resupply boxes just to make them stand out. Maybe you can do the same. Don't you just love polka dots?

Sorry: we know there are a lot of instructions here and we’re not trying to scare you. We’d LOVE to hear from & get care packages from you! We just want to make sure we actually do get the items. The whole system is a bit more complicated than going out to the mailbox in front of our house.
