Guest Author - Tess' Feet - and more photos

Hi Everyone, Tess' feet here and we have a few things to say. Firstly, HELP!! We used to be size 7-1/2; we weren't beautiful, but we didn't scare children. One of our favorite pasttimes used to be SITTING on a raft. Then our and Tom's brain got this big hiking the PCT idea. And sure, the whole brain/heart complex is loving it, marveling at lizards, flowers, bowl rocks, pine cones, a desert fox, the smell of an entire hillside of blooming lupine, looking back and being amazed at the distance WE just hauled the whole organism along, Joshua Trees, grasses, good water sources, birdsong, hummingbird moths, smooth pine-needle soft trails (ok, we like these a great deal also), and thinking of people and events that the brain had stored so far under the stresses of work, home maintenance and "getting ahead" that it feels it's on some sort of brain/heart treasure hunt. Oh PAHLEASE. We are talking maybe THREE toenails that will not be falling off very soon. What's big, ugly and has 3 toenails? We figure one blister on the brain and we'd buy a CAR. And, don't tell anyone we went to Junior High with, but we're wearing toe socks again (they aren't rainbow colored, but I wouldn't put it past that big lump of gray matter, riding free and easy up there). Ya, the brain is not on our My Space "friends" list. We do still like the ankles though. They've been getting strangled (and blistered) with tightening up the heel area on these big, ugly shoes to save all 3 viable toenails. Thanks, ankles! And, we still love the stomach, as when it speaks, we stop, SIT DOWN, and eat. And the stomach seems to be speaking a lot now. We're also very fond of the person who put epsom salts in the lobby "Hiker Box", where we are really enjoying our zero day. And that cerebral galoof up there also jetisoned a bunch more gear, so the pack will be lighter tomorrow. Oh, and our best friend body parts are now the THUMBS. Hitchhiking has been really good - met some really nice great folks - heck, even had a dinner party invite yesterday morning. But oh, no - WE had to keep walking. Oh, now WE have to go - the brain wants to go (read, "get up") have a beer with fellow hikers.
