South Fork Kern River

Kern River - cool miraculous water in the desert. 15 miles straight to get here but this is awesome. The proverbial sight for sore eyes and just made for soaking. Then 4-5 sandy miles to an immediate 2 ice cold pops and a pint to Ben & Jerry's. Kennedy Meadows - a sprawling little loose community of about 40 persons and a general store with a big, big, shady porch. Gateway to the Clover Fire. And the high Sierra.

Sitting on the shady porch, picked up 5 packages, making plans with D & K and Dave Cowen, Devon's dad. Just having a chair to sit in is pure luxury. Behind us guitar music by a couple of thru hikers that have carried them since the beginning. Pure bliss, despite not yet having an outdoor shower or clean clothes. Tonight I sleep in a tent, too. Sweet! Maybe that'll let me sleep better - so far my nights have been very very restless.

The Clove Fire has the PCT closed , so the plan making is involved and necessary. I'll take a zero tomorrow to organize & package & clean up.
