MARMOT!
Gerbil King
06/26/08
Independence, Ca
Spending the night at a camp ground a half mile out of town. We (Forager and I) had a grueling twenty-five mile day (super-mileage for the High Sierras) and did two passes. Forrester Pass (renamed with some duct tape and sharpie to Forager Pass) at 13,500 ft and Kearsager Pass at 12,000+ feet. We got in late to the camp ground thirteen miles from town, and a nice lady talked her husband into running us into town. God bless woman’s influence of man. And I am saying this as a man.
Today was a hard but good day. I got the feeling back. Even though I almost found myself in a similar situation as yesterday coming down “Forager” Pass, it didn’t shake me. I got the tingly feeling when I looked around at the paradise I am in. It’s good to be alive.
I thought about it and marmots kind of resemble Lemmewinks in the face.
Tomorrow I rise early to catch a bus into Bishop to re-supply. The trail to get here was nine miles and a lot of elevation change (and I will have to do it again) but the scenery was amazing. On the way down there was a natural lake in the almost perfect shape of a heart.
