Journal Entry

The non-stop rain and freezing temperatures this weekend and a flare-up in my knee has me sticking to the hills around my house rather than going farther for some better hiking. Fortunately, Portland is a nice hilly city, so I can find plenty of up and downhill walks just outside my door. My brother and I took a walk to the zoo- you'd be surprised how many hills we walked there, two hours of looking at animals and tackling hills. The best hill there was a switchback in the Pacific Northwest exhibit, near the eagle cage. The zoo was a bit depressing in this exhibit- having seen many of the animals in the wild, it was hard to see them in such limited environments. I'm looking forward to toughing up and facing the cold winter weather to get outdoors in a less urban area where the only eagles I see won't be in a pen.

The sis and I also went job hunting today in the rain. I'm hoping that a few months of part-time work will cover some of my trail expenses and maybe allow me to travel some after completing it in the fall.
