In Warner Springs!

We made it to Warner Springs today - boy it's nice to have a shower and a meal. We've been suffering from a heat wave - it's been hot, hot, hot! Have we mentioned that having umbrellas in the desert is a lifesaver?! So far, so good, though. We're a little ahead of schedule. Kim's caught a cold, which hasn't helped any, but she's been soldiering on, she's been doing remarkably well. We were originally planning another night out, but just decided to put in a longer day yesterday and today to have a shower tonight - I think it was worth it.

Things that have gone well so far:

Food - we have so much of it, we're not even remotely hungry. We've been carrying a lot of extra around, but I think it is really helping us to just eat as much as we possibly can. But man, do we have a lot of food.....

Itinerary - I think our itinerary is working out pretty well. Thanks to Ray Jardine and his planning it out for us...

The tarp is still a mixed bag - it's working pretty well, I think, but Kim's not convinced yet.

Not so good:

Shoes - my feet hurt! I sent a size 12 to Warner Springs, which I'm really looking forward to. My toes have swollen out of my size 11 shoes, and my heels have blisters where they are essentially hanging over the soles.

Kim's cold - a real bummer...

Our socks - Kim and I love how fast those cheap acrylic socks from Wal-mart dry, but we're discovering that after about two 20+ mile days, they disintegrate.

The heat - it's supposed to be twenty degrees cooler here in two days - we hit the worst of a pretty good heat wave.

- Brent
