Delay -- Still Hanging Out

When we pulled off the Trail Dick had a sore knee -- which unfortunately is still bothering him. So, we decided to hang out one more day to give it some rest. Hopefully he'll be back up and walking as fast as ever tomorrow. Now that I'm clean (a temporary condition), fatter and resupplied, I'm ready to get back at it -- which ready or not is tomorrow.

Fun with Trail Names -- although it seems silly in one regard, almost everyone adopts a hiker name. I've been puzzling about this, trying to decide what I think of this. I've come to the conclusion that it is a rite of passage that one undergoes to assimilate into the hiker tribe. Some of the names are serious, some given, some self determined. Gotta Go is one of my favorites. Then Sweet Fish, Sasquatch, Gazelle, Spike, Patch, Oblivious....I was warned by one hiker that sometimes people get stuck with a name they'd rather not have...for example he told me of a friend who was telling a group of other hikers that he'd hate to be named something like "Rat Puke". Guess the rest is obvious.

Consquently in self defense, I decided to choose from nicknames bestowed on me in the past. I spent the better part of one day ruminating about possible names for myself -- one of my favorites was "tater" since I hail from Tate City part of the time and dearly love potatoes. But, I finally picked "Vegematic" -- a name given to me for my prowess with a Chef's knife...plus it appeals to my sense of humor and reflects my aversion to non plant protein. Anyway, I continue to find trail names fun to ponder.

Tomorrow -- on to Wrightwood!
