Tunnel Under Antelope Valley Highway

Saturday - Arriving at Hiker Heaven

I left my RV park camp at 6:30 looking forward to getting into Agua Dulce before noon. I passed some gorgeous rock formations, more blooming yucca, a lovely white desert flower and finally nicely labeled plants at Vasquez County Park. I forgot to get a picture of the lovely pepper tree unfortunately.
I would say this has been my worst day in terms of morale. I was ready to hitch a ride to the nearest airport and return home. Coming into Agua Dulce there were three cars parked on the roadside for sale. One was a nice little Honda. I fantasized buying it and driving it home. In the back of my mind was also Nathan's need for dependable transportation.
As I got to downtown, a few nice little stores, a cafe, liquor store, pizza parlor and Mexican Restaurant there were banners hung welcoming PCT hikers. I cried. It was 11:30 and I stopped at the pizza place and ordered a personal pizza. I was intent on supporting the local business. After I entered a cleaned up hiker entered who recognized me as a hiker because I still had pack and poles and was filthy. I invited him to join me for lunch. This is Germinator. We had a conversation about feeling low on the trail. His advice was to never get off the trail and go home immediately. He said if you feel like leaving take a couple of zeroes (non-hiking days) in a motel, take care of yourself and give it some thought. Germinator is German and attempted a thru hike in2004 but was stricken with giardia and had to leave the trail.
After lunch I walked to the corner, took a left and a mile later was at hiker heaven, Donna and Jeff Sauffley's. They have a wonderful set up for hikers. Check out the website - I grabbed clean cotton clothes - sweat pants,t~hirt, sweatshirt and towel, a laundry basket and sticky notes and headed for the tents. I heard a call from the mobile home (lounge), "Ginny, I'm in that tent." Rockstar had arrived the day before me. I bunked in with Rockstar, Germinator and Clearwater who was fighting a stomach bug.
I showered, put on the clean cotton clothes and put all my dirty clothes in the laundry basket labeled with a sticky note "Circle." Basket was placed in the garage where I retrieved my mail and package. The next morning all of my clothes came back - CLEAN - L-Rod (Donna) is a marvel.
When I got to the lounge Vanity Fair and Windbreaker (mom and daughter hiking team from White Salmon) were making batches of homemade cinnamon rolls. Some had nuts and some none so all could partake. They smelled and tasted yummy.
In the late afternoon I went to the store to get dinner provision. Johnny Cache and One-eye Willie went wth me. They had just arrived, two 18 year olds from the Boston area.
Dinner was to be salad and sharp cheddar, wine with a double chocolate Haagen Daz bar for dessert. Yum!!
Trekking on,
