Day 133

Everyone was up early, excitement was crackling in the crisp morning air. We took off, just two small climbs and some amazing ridge walking in the first seven miles. We even went over 7000 feet. It was beautiful up there, looking down on turquoise Hopkins lake. We walked on with Boomer and Jay-Z, Disco was struggling with his terrible shin splint. I felt for him, he could barely walk but he hobbled along with pain in every step.

Before we knew it we were at Castle Pass, just four short, easy miles to Canada. We stopped for a little snack and so that Disco could rest his leg and foot. Then we were off, we walked on with butterflies in our stomaches and just like that, we were pounding down the last four switchbacks to the Canadian Border!!!

Joy!!! Boomer and Jay-Z were already there, along with a helicopter that was setting up some sort of surveying thing. So there we were. I walked up to the infamous terminous with tears in my eyes and wrapped my arms around it. This was a big deal and I knew it...my heart was swelling with emotion, this hike meant so much to me...Disco and I grew our relationship tremendously and realized more deeply how much we love eachother, and also, it was the close of a chapter. I doubt I will do another hike of this magnitude anytime soon and so this was the end, not just of the PCT, but of the triple crown journey and of five month hikes. It was bittersweet.

We spent an hour or so there taking photos with all of the fun border things we had packed in, each of us privately celebrating what this moment meant to us. Eventually it came time to get going...eight more miles to the road. We did it silently, preparing for the end of the hike. Disco was in pain, he was barely walking at this point.

Mad Monty met us a few miles before the road and the five of us walked in together, laughing and telling stories and jokes all the way to Monty's truck. Disco and I found a solo moment to congratulate eachother and remark at how wonderful it was to spend a summer together on the trail.

We headed over to the lodge for dinner and decided to all get a room for the night. We took showers and laid around on the bed and enjoyed knowing that we were going to have an extended rest period for our bodies.

Its time for bed now. That's it, just like that, its over. I feel so proud of myself for all this walking, I'm happy about all these precious memories I have.

There is just one thing left to do...go back to Colorado, get my dog, and do more hiking!
