Poppies near Laguna Mountains

I Made It This Far Already!

I'm settled into a nice camp in a grove of pines (first I've seen on the trail). Today was another fine day of hiking, but a bit tougher than yesterday due to an extra 2,000 feet of climbing. I hit the trail at 7:15 this morning, feeling good after a reasonable night's sleep.

The trail today was mostly more steep chapparal with wonderful wildflowers but not much shade. About 4 miles after crossing under Interstate 8, I stopped for lunch at Kitchen Creek. The creek was still flowing nicely, and soaking my feet felt great. It was a long, hot climb out of Kitchen Creek to Long Canyon Creek, where I stopped for an afternoon siesta and dinner. I packed up late afternoon and hiked the last 1.5 miles up to this lovely pine grove. Tomorrow morning I'll stop in at the Mt. Laguna store for snacks and a cold drink. The store doesn't open until 9AM, so I get to sleep in a bit.

I haven't started really craving "real" food yet, but a hot shower and clean clothes would feel good. It'll have to wait until Warner Springs in about 70 miles.

Hi to everyone at home, and Happy Trails. - Martin
