Hikertown Hostel

Steve called from Hikertown Hostel a few minutes ago. He spent the night there last night and is waiting for a couple of his good high school friends to pick him up for a day of relaxation. The cell phone reception was pretty good (cut out once or twice) but it soundy very windy.

Steve says the next 200 miles before Kennedy Meadows are notoriously bad. It is 110 degrees without much to see. Steve should be arriving at Kennedy Meadows around 5/26 or 5/27. Then it's up into the snow-covered Sierras.

Steve said he is starting to feel like he's getting into a groove after a month of hiking. He gave his beard a buz cut at the last hostel. He hasn't had any problems with water so far- he carries plenty.

He's got about 40 more miles of hiking until his next stop at Tehachapi. He said he's going to try to do some night hiking tonight- full moon and lower temperatures.
