Hanging at Kennedy Meadows

Hanging here at Kennedy Meadows due to the weather conditions, rain, 12 to 20” of fresh snow and freezing temps at the higher elevations. A few people went out and came back so things are backed up here with lots of hikers. I have to say KM grows on you. It is a small mountain town with no power and a pay phone in the parking lot. Everyone uses solar panels and generators. Store hours are 9 to 6ish, then they cut the generators off. They serve great burgers and on the weekend had several free pot luck dinners for the hikers!

On the way into KM I got to see my first two bears in the wild. The terrain is starting to change as we climb higher into the Sierra’s. We professionals will let the young guns jump out there in to the snow to make foot prints so we can look good hiking.

Next stop Lone Pine or Independence? And only 1950 miles to go…

Diamond - Deep In The Rough

Diamond Dave

The PCT is 2650 miles of trail from Mexico to Canada where you have to fight through snakes, lions and bears every inch of the way!
