Ow, My Knees

Day 8 - Late start today because I had to wait for stores to open at 9AM. I needed food and a new pair of socks. I reached the bottom of Devils Slide and the start of a long climb at 10AM. Crossed the famous Fullers Ridge. Two weeks earlier, hikers were carrying ice axes and micro-crampons to negotiate snowy sections. In my case, it was totally melted out, and I had no problems.

Then I decided to press on. I dropped 7,000 feet in 15 miles to near Cabazon. This was an absolutely horrible and hobbling experience, further compounded by the fact that both my poles are broken. For those of you that don't hike, that's a lot of down hill to wear on the knees. I got to the drinking fountain, so called because that's what it is, located in the middle of the desert. I barely slept, both due to my hurting body, and the 90F nighttime temps. I did have a great night view of Palm Springs.
