All Done
All done. 2663.5 behind me, none in front. I crossed into Canada Sunday night, spending a few minutes at Monument 78 and snapping a few pictures. I wasn't sure how I would feel, but I've decided the word "jubilation" is appropriate. Certainly not relief, not remorse, just proud of what I accomplished and of the memories of beautiful scenery I will carry until my memories fade (luckily, digital photos live longer).
It was a great trip. I can't speak for others, but the weather was solid (being from Pittsburgh, anything that's not grey and wet is a relief). Snow in the Sierra's only made it more exciting. The bugs in Oregon simply pushed me through the relatively boring section faster. Rain in Southern Washington was too bad, but walking across the knife ridge in Goat Rocks during a 70mph rain storm was "fun". The final 70 miles north of Rainy was awesome. I unfortunately didn't know about the register in Monument 78, so my final philosophical words are inscribed at Manning Lodge. They go "Hike on my brothers and sisters, until they pound the final nail and toss dirt on your grave, hike on".
Best wishes to the balance of the 2009 crew.
