Jay dropping us at KM

Suicide Lizards

Left bishop at 8am and started the drive south. On the way up to Kennedy Meadows there were all these lizards either sitting in the road or running across the road as we drove by. Had to keep dodging them! Got to Kennedy Meadows and found several hikers there that we hadn't seen since Mt. Laguna. What a surprise! Got our 2 resupply boxes at the general store and had to pay a 2 dollar handling fee for each.

Drove near the trailhead and had lunch next to the South Fork of the Kern River with Jay and Y2K. Got our backpacks all ready to go and headed out. We hiked along the Kern for many miles. Even though we are in the southern sierra there is still desert flora. We were hiking by cacti today. Saw an unidentified snake and also a rattle snake. Partly cloudy and a slight breeze was helping keep things cool as we ascended. Camped next to a river. Hopefully the bears won't visit tonight. Set up our new tent for the first time on the trail. It went up pretty easily considering we set it up in the wind. Also in our down bags for the first time on the trail. We have a bear canister now but all our food does not fit in it. Oh well. Also doing this section without a stove so no cooking warm meals.

Overall, beautiful scenery and glad to be back on the trail!
