Gino fishing

Catch and Release

Jay drove us back to the Onion Valley Trailhead in the morning. Tried stopping at the Independence post office to sign the trail register but they weren't open at 9am. As we started our 2500 ft. climb up to Kearsarge Pass, Jay and Y2K went on their own day hike up an adjacent canyon. Arrived at the pass after 2.5 hours of climbing which included several stops along the way up. Good timing! The hiking felt good and relatively easy. Gino's pack was about 26 lbs and Lion Heart's was about 24 lbs. Not bad starting weight for 5 days of hiking. Each day they get lighter as we eat food!

Easy hiking day to Charlotte Lake. Got here around 2pm. Got the tent set up and took a relaxing afternoon nap. Then we did a little reading. Gino just finished Ecotopia Emerging and is now reading Ishi. Lion Heart is still reading Call of the Wild. Finally emerged from the tent for dinner at the lake's edge. Gino also tried his hand at fishing with a fly and bubble that Jay rigged up for him. The fish were really jumping and finally Gino caught about a 6 inch rainbow trout. Decided to let the guy go because there wasn't a lot of time to cook him up for dinner. Maybe next time Gino will have fish for dinner. Beautiful sunset on the lake. And lots of swarming mosquitoes!

We officialy stink clean. Put on the freshly washed clothes and they already smell like b.o. Is there any sense in continuing to wash them?
