Silver Pass

Slower start this morning while utilizing the last cell service for many days. A few people came by who were going to wait for the ferry. One guy, a JMT hiker, kindly agreed to take our trash from the whole pie we ate for dinner and breakfast.

Several easy creek crossings, described in the guide book as potentially fatal, on route to Silver Pass (10,900 ft). Just a little bit of snow near the pass. Before reaching the pass saw several hikers that warned of the snow saying there was a lot there and the trail was hard to find. Well, we had to chuckle a little over this because there were only a few small patches of snow and it was still easy to see where the trail went. If these folks thought Silver Pass had a lot of snow wait until they get to Muir Pass where there is miles of snow on either side of the pass and you definitely have no idea where the trail is!

Crossed Fish Creek over a bridge, gently climbed up to Tully Hole, switch backed up to Virginia Lake and finally descended to Purple Lake where we have a small campsite near the lake. Lots of mosquitoes.

Didn't have to take off our shoes today for any river crossings. In total, climbed over 4500 ft today. Reluctant to leave Edison Lake and VVR! Saw a marmot with babies and they were so cute! Also saw a forest service back-country ranger with a huge barrel on his back. He asked if we had a bear canister but didn't make us show him.
