The Mythical Journey

The trail after the trail

Well I am back in the "other" world now. I am feeling pretty good though my feet are sore everytime I stand up after being stationary for a while.
I must be a glutton for punishment cause the very first thing I did after I got back is tackle the California Department of Motor vehicles regarding my jeeps registration. Actually it was no sweat. They are gonna let me roll for another year! I had no problems driving after the long hiatus though I am decidedly a bit of a slowpoke on the roadways.
It has been a week now and I don't have the urge to jump up and hike at sunrise anymore though I have not lost the habit of reusing the same water bottle yet! My hiker hunger retreated almost immediately. I am down to three normal meals instead of the constant feedbag I had on the trail. I shaved the beard and put on some cotton clothes.. I am almost human again.
I have not gone back to work yet but I have been busy sorting photos and cleaning up gear.
I had thought from the start there would be an all encompassing feeling of success but just like the hike itself, the feelings come in little parcels of joy. Just the way I could never grasp the magnitude of the trail ahead all at once, the rememberance of the miles behind are sharp but equally segmented. I still feel that it is more akin to an incoming tide than a single crashing wave.
Will I hike again? Absolutely!
Will I do another thru hike.. YES!
Right now I need to recouperate a bit.
Gain some space in my mind so that I might reach a greater perspective on where I have just been, and what has happened. I will return to my pre-hike training schedule slowly until my feet recover.. but train I will!
I have started the ball rolling and I am curious just how much momentum is there. How far can determination carry a person? Well for now I am much too close to things to guess at those answers. I suppose I will have to hike and see...
Here is to hatching new dreams!
Cheers-Iceaxe
