Santium Pass

I got up late due to not sleeping well. Oakie Girl made me coffee. After I packed up, she drove me to the highway trail crossing. As we passed the Observatory, we saw Gravitron being unloaded so we stopped and said hi. I started hiking around 9:30am. The trail for the first few miles is through black lava rock fields and should not be done on a hot day. But today the sky had scattered clouds and the temperatures was pleasant so I enjoyed the hiking.

Gravitron caught up and passed me during my lunch break (though I suspect he didn't see me off the trail). I passed Mt Washington shortly after lunch and quickly caught up and passed Gravitron when he stopped for his own lunch break. I reached highway 20 at Santium Pass around 5pm. Just before it, I found a cooler with trail magic and had a Mountain Dew. When I made it near Summit Lake I stopped for the night settling for a shorter mileage then normal due to my late start.

A Walk North On The PCT - 2009

One small step for man, but I'll walk even farther for a burger.

The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is a 2,650-mile national scenic trail that runs from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington. The PCT traverses 24 national forests, 37 wilderness areas and 7 national parks. Join the PCTA to support this trail.
