The PCT goes right thru a junk yard! Very scenic.

Journal Entry

512 Day 20 HWY 10 to Mission Creek 18 miles 228 miles This section is 64.5 miles from Interstate 10 to Big Bear. The PCT Atlas says it "starts in the sandy, wind swept desert environment of San Gorgonio pass at Interstate 10, climbs steeply into the barren Bighorn Mtns before entering the San Bernardino Forest, emerging eventually into sparser shrublands, with views of the Mojave desert, to strike Hwy 18." Then we arrive at Big Bear City and Big Bear Lake. The description doesn't sound that great. The first 12 miles were up, hot, dry and flowers were past their prime. Then we reached Mission Creek where we jumped in to clean up and cool off. Flowers once again are everywhere. After a nap we continued on for a few miles and are now camped at a beautiful spot with the sounds of the creek and very noisy frogs. This morning we passed the Mesa Wind Farm. Very interesting to see all those windmills pretty close up. We hiked a bit with Hawkeye and later at the creek ran into napping Jeff and Creamsicle. Nancy
