South of Lake Valhalla

Washington Day 13

Today was a leasurely start as I had to wait for the Post Office to open at 8:30. I mailed a resupply package here. I finally decided to stop cooking and mailed home my stove. I bought a large sandwich at the convenience store and a hunk or cheese, some tortillas and lots of junk food at the gas station. I think I'll like this better. Goodness knows I practically subsist on junk food anyway.

At about 9:30, I was done with all the town chores and ready to head back to the trail. I was worried about how long a hitch might take, but luckily got a ride in about 5 minutes. The guy (about 30 years old) actually turned around after passing me. He said I looked un-threatening. He is an avid kayaker and was heading out for the last white water outing of the year. Nice guy.

I started hiking around 10. The weather was again great. There weren't any great climbs today so the miles came quite easy. I didn't see a soul today. Glacier Peak was looming in the distance and getting closer and closer. I hiked until dark and was quite glad to not have to cook or clean. My way of hiking.
