Pacific Crest Trail Map

The Plan

I have thinking about this trip for over 10 years now. I am getting old enough such that it is time to put up or shut up. Hopefully, I will be able to do the former. Over the years, I have done plenty of big and stupid human tricks but I think this one could be my biggest ever.

Since I can not disappear for 6 months, my plan is to try and complete about 1/2 of the PCT this year and complete the northern half next year. The general plan is to start at Campo in early to mid April; get to a convenient exit point to attend the kickoff party; return to the trail; and then get to Walker Pass. At that point I will have to leave the trail to meet my fiscal obligations. Then I want to return to the trail in early July with the goal of enjoying the Sierras and not just surviving them. After the Sierras, I have 3 possible exit options: South Lake Tahoe, Donner Summit, or Dunsmuir since they have reasonable options for public transit.

I am not sure that I can pull this off but the best way to force me to put things into action is to publicly declare my insanity (I mean, my intentions).
