Big Bear Lake

Down, down, down into a burning ring of fire

How old am I if I use words frm a Duane Eddy song?

But that was the song of the day. Over 2/3 of the trail that I hiked today was through a recent forest fire area. Except for the first part of the day (which was up), the rest of the day was down trending to the 5400' level. The burnt section meant that shade was at a premium and the lower I got, the hotter it got. I had 2 creek fords right at the end of the day. Wet socks and shoes. Apparently there is another ford just down the trail waiting for me tomorrow - yuk.

Right after the first ford, Mountain Lion and I came out to a road where there were 2 families in their 4WD vehicles. They were amazed at what us crazies were doing. Just goes to show that older is not necessarily smarter. They had huge delicious-looking, veggie oozing hogie sandwiches in one hand and cold beverages in the other. They did notice my ogling.
