Granite slabs

VVR to Squaw Lake

The boat did not leave VVR until 9 so it was another leisurely morning and a nice big breakfast. Then it was time to slog up hill after re-connecting with the PCT. There are several potentially dangerous creek fords on the ascent but not today. Just a lot of switchbacks, some very nice creeks and some exceptionally nice granite slabs on the way to Silver Pass. The weather threatened hail/rain/lightning all day but only spit a few hail pellets at me. On the north side of Silver Pass, there were lots of neat little lake basins and I stopped at Squaw Lake. I still had some time to descend to Tully Hole but the reports from up hill hikers indicated hordes of mosquitos. Head net, long sleeves, long pants, and DEET tomorrow.

I could tell that I needed the rest day at VVR - big time!! The up hill section was actually OK today!!
