Nero, a day of hiking so few miles it practically a zero day. I enjoyed one today. Twenty hikers came into to Crater Lake. There was an all you can eat buffet! Everyone spent the day hanging out and enjoying each other & catching up on trial stories & cracking beers and jokes.

I did manage to hike the 5 miles from the Hwy to the Rim & when I arrived at the lake after an insanely steep last quarter mile I was AWESTRUCK by the intense glowing blue of the lake. The afternoon sun was being reflected brilliantly back in a deep sapphire blue. I learned that because the lake is so immensely deep the reds & yellows of the light spectrum are absorbed & only the intense, mind blowing blue colors are refracted back making the lake seems almost unreal, like it was painted only moments before... anyways I liked the lake.

Sixteen of us are camped along the rim tonight. Are tents can't be more than 100 yards apart. We are going to be leap frogging like crazy the next couple of days.
