Still Planning

This past week of planning had some bumps in the road. First, my dehydrator burned up on me. I was just getting the hang of it, making lots of yummy jerky, cole slaw, sauce and fruit roll ups and such. I purchased my Gardenmaster Model FD1020 on craigs list, so no warranty :( Called the company and they would be happy to send me another power head for $ 85.00 plus shipping. Not in the PCT budget, so I will make due with what I have in the freezer. I am lucky to have friends who have been sending me their leftover and extra dehydrated treats. Thanks Chris and Julie!! My resupply strategy is to do half home maildrops and half town purchasing. I want to support the communities along the way who, I've heard, are most gracious to PCT hikers. The other incident is not really a bump in the road, but more a family event. My son was recently awarded a two year teaching job in Bogota, Colombia. Congratulations Trevor and Ximena!! This means they will be leaving for Colombia with my grandson Santiago (2 1/2), while I am hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. Grandma has her heart set on continuing with my thru-hike plans, and I know it will all work out. My son Joel will be mailing Mom her food drops and taking care of home base. He is working towards his dream of teaching in Africa. So, for those reading this journal who don't know us, we all have an inherited adventuresome spirit. I received my PCT thru-hike permit in the mail yesterday. Now just waiting on the permit to enter Canada.
