After almost a week of being off the trail and no noticeable improvement in my foot, I went to my foot doctor here in Portland today. I learned that I have a stress fracture and it will require rest and the use of "The Boot"! I learned that a stress fracture doesn't always show up on the initial x-ray and, actually, doesn't show up until the healing process has started. I am turning this into a positive time by reading lots of books to my grandson, coloring and seeing all the amazing new things he has learned. I am witnessing the sounds of "Look Mommy, I pooped in my potty", and "Grandma, watch this!" I will be back on the trail but it will be an abbreviated thru-hike this year. Meanwhile, I am reading journals of my PCT friends, Splash, Rockstar, Why Not, Why Wait, Hawkeye, Hansel & Gretel, Lion Heart & Gino and all the other wonderful members of my hiking family. Keep posting and keep hiking.
