Pacific Crest Trail Map

I'm back in the swing of things

After three weeks of lying around, I made to the top of the Grand Mesa today for some cross-country skiing. The Grand Mesa (for those of you who are not familiar) is supposedly the largest flat-topped mountain in the world. I'm not exactly sure of the elevation of the ski trails, but I know that they are somewhere over 10,000 feet. The snow conditions were dreamy! The pine branches were covered with thick white fluff, and the ski tracks were slathered with a thin layer of fresh grease. Skiing has become my most enjoyable outdoor activity. For me, its sort of like cycling - a quiet, rhythmic rush. The sound of your breath with the "chick... chick... chick" of your poles. My recently repaired knee made me happy, and it felt terrific. Fifteen miles later, I glided back to my car, tired and satisfied. What a day!
