Past our first 100 miles!

Wild Day down to Warner Springs Oasis: 110 miles = 4% of the PCT

It was a wild one today. Plod, Shin, Rough Work and I all left pretty early, 6:15, and started the serpentine winding back and forth up the canyons of the San Felipe maountains and then down them. The wind was listed in weather reports as "EXTREME" which was the theme of the National G film we saw at the kickoff weekend.Gusts of 50-60 miles per hour tried to knock us off the trail and a drizzle was coming down so a little uncomfortable but rather familiar to me from hiking in the Cascades. Just like home except more wind. I hike a fractionally faster than the others but when I am about to leave a water stop they arrive.
After 10 miles I descended along a sweet little creek to a water source called Barrel Spring to find that a little more "trail magic" was there courtesy of a Trail Angel, Gatorades and soda pop cooling in the water. Quite a treat, had a Hansen's Kiwi Strawberry pop, excellent. Then continued on into beautiful grassy flowery meadows as the sun came out. Aftr 5 miles I arrived at Eagle Rock a sandstone (I think) formation that looks exactly like an eagle with its wings outstretched. It reminded me of the eagle rocks at Machu Picchu, Allison and Nicola (fond memories) although this was even more three dimensional.

Another three miles and I arrived,12:45 pm, at the small town with a nice resort/ranch, Warner Springs. Green grass, dogs barking, the smell of burgers in the air. It even has a golf course and after checking in, having a luxurious bath, and washing clothes, I headed over to the pro shop as Shin and Plod arrived for a trio of bacon cheeseburgers. The triple chocolate cake was a bit too much for me and we split it three ways. Dinner was delicious also in the dining room and we got reacquainted with several other hikers and met new ones. I spent about an hour and a half messing around with Verizon trying to get the teathering ability to work again through my Blackberry as a modem with eventual success. Calls to the kids and time for bed! Love to all!
