On the Trail Again, Just Can't Wait to Get on the Trail Again

Actually I could have waited...After such a wonderful long weekend celebrating Nicola's graduation with family, loving and being loved, heading back to the solitude of the PCT didn't sound like fun to me this morning.
Fortunately I had been in touch with my friend Shin and arranged to meet in Wrightwood at his hotel. Nic drove us to the trail head and off we went..
It was a slow day with quite a bit of snow hiking up to the 9400 ft summit of Mt Baden-Powell, named after the founder of the Boy Scouts. Lots of slip and sliding, but no precipitous drops anywhere. My newest piece of equipment came in handy, my Whippet. It's a burly trekking pole with an ice ax head. I didn't have occasion to use the pick but it was nice knowing I had it if necessary. Also proving its value today was my GPS unit as Shin and I got off course a couple times in the snow.
We only covered 17 miles in 9 hours from one Hwy 2 crossing to another, but gained close to 4000 vertical feet and descended an almost equal amount.
Just as we were trading desserts (powdered donettes for lemon drops) brothers Joe and Daniel arrived and looks like finally we'll be able to hike some together over the next couple of days. We're all tired and headed to bed. Hope to do 24 of the Station Fire detour miles tomorrow; unfortunately lots of road walking. My Love to All, Charlie (perhaps Six-toed Buford)
