Hottubbin Yeah Baby!!

Road Detour

Actually we did get to hike 10 miles of trail detour before enduring the next 12 miles of paved road detour. Not a lot to say about the hike other than flat long, boring and hard on the joints.
However it was one of my most fun hiking days so far. Daniel (Double Check), Joe (Calorie), Shin (Turtle) and I (perhaps now Six Toed Buford) sang songs to pass the time. Great fun! We sang 8-10 Christmas carols with Shin giving us a stirring rendition of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer in Japanese. Then we moved on to patriotic song, again with a fine Japanese anthem rebuttal to our Star Spangled Banner. Dan also played us some merry Irish tunes on his fife and a couple that sounded like Civil War marching tunes. Excellent company for a long day!
Went an extra mile or two into the small town of Little Rock where we slurped down large milk shakes as a predinner snack to enchiladas and burritos at the Mica mexican restaurant.
Then the most fortunate event of the day took place when local veterinarian, Gay, stopped Dan on the street and asked if we needed a place to pitch our tents. She, husband Birch and daughter, Austin welcomed us to their ranch, 30+ acres with many horses, fruit trees, rabbits, dogs and a large trampoline on which Dan performed back flips to the delight of all. Then we were invited up to use the jacuzzi hot tub next to the indoor pool!!
Squirt gun fights frizbee games and 104 degree soaking ensued. Incredible generosity. We even get a ride back to the trailhead in the morning. Another 26 miles of road detour tomorrow and we'll be set up to hit the Sauffley's trail angel home in Aqua Dulce Thursday afternoon.
Signing off from beside the pool. Six Toed Buford
