Rainbow over wet meadows

Day 10: don't see no Eagle Rock!

Part way thru the night it began to mist. By the time I woke up, Yeahbut had already put up the fly. We heard some hikers go by in the dark, no doubt opting to walk to better conditions. The fly, being hastily put up, flapped some in the wind. Packing up was a bit slower with the rain. We eventually hit the trail, and reached Barrel Springs in about 10 minutes. Trail angels had left cold drinks in a cooler and in the spring tank. Much appreciated, even tho it was cold enough today that we didn't need them. The trail continued over low hills and across open meadows. Under better conditions, the meadows would look like a Sierra Club calendar photo. There were flowers everywhere. The wind was head on, pelting us with rain, making visibility an issue. We stopped at Eagle Rock, a well-known local landmark, but couldn't get photos in the rain. Onward to Warner Springs...the weather started to clear as we walked thru stands of massive live oaks along a creek. It was almost park-like, so serene the scenery. We arrived at the resort before noon, stopping at the post office to pick up our resupply box. Now, we get to enjoy cleaning up, eating, and soaking in the hot springs here. This area has historically been part of a western supply route dating back to the 1800s. A lot of horse trails, old adobe construction, rural beauty.
