Double rainboow

Day 29

Started late on the trail. It's Monday, so we had to wait for the PO to open to get our resupply box. We had a leisurely breakfast with Structure, Danny and Shin. Structure had arranged a ride back to the trailhead for 10. We were walking away from hwy 2 by 10:30, packs full of food for the next 90 miles. Structure is joining us for now. He's an amazing 72 yrs old, and pleasant company. Sometimes we hike together, sometimes meet up at trail junctions or breaks. There's a lot of snow on on Mt Baden-Powell. Like many, we opted to hike around it. Hikers are scattered all over this year. Some has jumped forward to snow free areas, some are hiking south from the Mojave area. A lot of plotting to try and hike as much as possible. For now, we just keep moving northward, doing as much as we feel comfortable doing. After circling the mountain this morning, we dropped down to the S Fork CG via the Manzanita Trail to start a long fire detour (from the Station Fire last year). We climb up and down an area of eroded rock called Devils Punchbowl. The weather has been unsettled, with wind and a little rain. This is OK, because we'll be detouring thru some low elevation desert for a couple of days. We saw a double rainbow but only one other hiker all day. It's good to be back on the trail.
