Slack packing...a long, but wonderful day

Amoeba, Jersey Girl, and I decided to slack pack today. Slack packing is defined as carrying only a small amount of food and enough water for the day (no clothing, sleeping bags, tents, etc.). We got dropped off by Bob (the HikerTown host and very nice trail angel) at Cottonwood creek and then walked back to HikerTown to stay one more night. It was a long, windy day..but we saw some more desert blooms, Joshua Trees, spotted lizards, and many contrails in a perpetually vibrant blue sky. The PCT follows the California Aqueduct during this section, and the walk was flat and long. We walked next to the aqueduct during the last few miles of the hike and the wind was really gusting against us. Even though it was a flat 17 miles, it was a full day of walking and I was tired and hungry when we got back. My ankle/calf felt fine on the flat surface, so I am planning to continue north tomorrow. Amoeba cooked a wonderful meal for dinner...mixed veggies with a delightful cheese sauce, hamburger with onions and garlic, and a wonderful baked potato with sour cream and butter. I must be in heaven!
